2023 Grants Awarded
The MCP Community grant was inspired by and made possible through a generous contribution from Lou French and Chris Singleton, who have pledged $20,000 to the MCP through 2025.
2024 GRANT RECIPIENTS
Summer Youth Radio Program – Building on the success of last year’s pilot program, the 2024 Youth Program seeks to expand access to the airwaves for youth aged 8-12 through increased enrollment. Grant funds will help further develop and implement hands-on broadcasting and community media curricula and cultivate ongoing educational programming, deepening community outreach and engagement.
Madrid Lands Hike Series – The Madrid Lands Hike Series will help area residents understand, connect with, and benefit from the local land. Participants will observe patterns on the land that indicate the history of the place, and identify healthy land as well as erosion and disturbance through soil, rock, and plant indicators and may include plant harvesting, processing, and tasting. This project will increase the land literacy of Madrid area residents and provide opportunities for kids and adults to explore our surroundings together, harvest and process wild foods, and knowledgeably support our local environment.
Madrid Community Labyrinth – Labyrinth walking provides a blend of movement, mindfulness, and cognitive stimulation. This project will create a walking labyrinth, open for use only by area residents, as a place for contemplation, relaxation, and meditation. Located on an underutilized MLA property, the labyrinth will include newly planted native wildflowers that will hopefully draw pollinators and increase the productivity of the community garden.
KMRD Program Guide – Producing a printed program guide for the KMRD on-air radio schedule will help expand KMRD’s outreach efforts and ensure that community members without consistent access to the internet can be fully engaged with the offerings of our community radio station. The guide will present a full rendering of the radio station’s schedule of on-air shows, along with information and graphics to increase listenership and deepen listener engagement.
